Red Feathers

He wears red feathers.
He is early this morning,
his glissando of night joys
joins me
in this ritual awakening.

We are companions of the dark
sharing nightmares.
I wander lost
he cringes from
the beating of night wings.

We meet each morning-
monks rising for matins.

I look for him now,
his prayers
a counterpoint to mine.
