April
There is a great feast
and a great joy growing
out of a burned soil.
Forest fires seed
an abundance of new life
even as the old
is flame-swallowed.
Spring chews through
the compost of winter
and crocuses flute white
from the slime.
Energy steams like mist
from every cell,
from soil and skin
and beak and feathers.
The Christ is risen and
Buddha dances on lotus leaves.
